Allandale is a neighborhood located in north central Austin. The neighborhood boundaries, as defined by the boundaries of the Allandale Neighborhood Association, are Burnet Road to the east, MoPac Expressway to the west, 45th Street to the south, and West Anderson Lane to the north.
Allandale is an established neighborhood offering a great sense of community, striking homes, streets lined with mature trees, and plentiful lots. The Allandale area also includes the smaller neighborhoods of Edgewood, Treadwell, Crestmont, Highland Park, Highland Village, Shoalmont, Shoal Village, and Green Acres.
Homes originally built in Allandale were constructed between the late 1940s and the late 1960s, with the average year built near the mid-1950s. Many of the original homes have been remodeled over the years. However, the ratio of homes that have been replaced with new construction in Allandale is smaller than in many Central Austin neighborhoods.
Allandale is just a short distance from downtown Austin, only 7 miles. During lighter traffic times, the commute is only 10 to 15 minutes; during heavier traffic, it might take up to 25 minutes. Bus lines run close to the neighborhood for residents who prefer to avoid driving in traffic.

Allandale schools are within the Austin Independent School District. Students in the neighborhood attend one of the following District schools: Gullett or Wooten Elementary School, Burnet or Lamar Middle School, and Lanier or McCallum High School. The schools are all within a short drive of most homes in the neighborhood. There are also private schools nearby, including the Austin Montessori School, Odyssey School, and the Griffin School. Because many of the streets have little traffic, many children bike or walk to school.
Allandale has a great deal to offer its residents. Just South of Greenlawn Parkway, on Shoal Creek Blvd., is Northwest Park. The park includes a community pool, picnic spots with grills, tennis and basketball courts, a baseball field, and a small pond. On the other side of Shoal Creek there is a leash-free dog park where many residents meet for ‘puppy play dates’.
The neighborhood also has many food options in the immediate neighborhood; both locally-owned and chain restaurants, encompassing almost every style of food you can imagine! Allandale is also just a quick drive from Downtown, and the Hyde Park food corridor, so the choices are really unlimited!
