Barton Creek West
Barton Creek is a BIG name in Austin. So many things surround the name. There, of course, is the creek itself which winds through the Hill Country bringing a rugged beauty to the hills. Then there is Barton Springs that is a favorite swimming hole for all of Austin during the hot summer days. But ultimatley, anything with the name "Barton Creek" better live up to its name and this neighborhood does. Beautiful hills, large trees and a well planned community make Barton Creek a well sought after place to live.
Although, technically not in the city of Westlake, the hill country West of the lake has some of the most beautiful land in the Austin area. The Lower Colorado river winds its way through cliffs and hills spotted with beautiful scenery. Twenty years ago, the Ranch Road 2244 or Bee Cave Road was a two lane road that was so narrow that on more than one occasion trucks would lose their mirrors when they connected with another truck’s mirror.
Now Bee Cave Road is a five lane road that connects Westlake to the small town of Bee Cave. This road has brought about many subdivisions with estate sized lots.
Eanes ISD plays a big part of the growth of this area. Its superior academic standards and staff create an almost private school quality to its students. Small class sizes, teachers with master or doctoral degrees and beautiful campuses make going to school a pleasure.
This area is also within five miles of the Galleria Mall with shopping at its best. Several years ago, the sleepy town of Bee Cave was approached by a developer to basically incorporate the city within their mall. Now the city Hall and the Library is in the Town Center with shops like Dillard, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Wholefoods surrounding them. New apartments and houses are all part of the master planned community.
