Hutto is a small town in Williamson County, Texas, and is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The community is located about seven miles east of Round Rock and 22 miles northeast of Austin, and is experiencing big growth.
From 2010 to 2011, the Texas State Data Center ranked Hutto as the number one fastest growing community, with the area experiencing a 1,350% population increase since 2000. The city is also home to the first accredited Economic Development Corporation in the Austin area. This voter-approved entity is in charge of expanding brands and local industry in the area, and was ranked as one of the "Top 100 Places in Major Markets to Locate Your Business" by Southern Business and Development. Temple College and Texas State Technical College also call this city home.
Despite its growth, Hutto maintains a strong sense of community. The 'Let's Move Hutto' initiative encourages people to get out in the parks and on the trails. The city was also chosen to represent Texas in competing for a $100,000 grant from a point-based recycle program.
Students in Hutto attend Hutto Independent School District schools. Hutto ISD offers more than just a high school diploma through a wide-range of advanced and college-level courses, dual-credit coursework and early college program, Legacy Early College; a Career and Technical Education program featuring numerous certifications including culinary arts, health sciences, business and veterinarian programs; award-winning and state-recognized art, band, music and athletic programs, a state-awarded and nationally recognized FCCLA program; and excellent expanded facilities. The district also recently became the first in the area to offer a full-day Head Start program.
Hutto ISD operates 8 campuses; one high school, Legacy Early College High School, two middle schools and four open elementary schools serve a student population that has grown from 1,400 students in 2001 to nearly 6,000.
